U-02 · Shopfront Stack domain brief

Own the .com. Pay attention to year two.

A US local business needs a name it controls — not a Facebook URL and not a teaser price that quietly doubles at renewal. We recommend Namecheap as the default registrar when you want a straightforward domain with lifetime WHOIS privacy on eligible names and a renewal you can actually read before you buy. Then we say when GoDaddy is the calmer one-login path.

The default, in one pass

Buy the .com you will print on the van

Search the exact name people will type after a radio ad or a yard sign. Skip clever TLDs (.shop, .guru, .xyz) for a first local business unless your trade already lives there. Own it. Auto-renew on.

Read the renewal column, not just year one

First-year sale prices are marketing. Year two is the real bill. Namecheap publishes register, renew, and transfer prices on its domain page. Look at renew before you click buy. We will not invent a number here.

WHOIS privacy is not a novelty add-on

Your home address should not be in a public WHOIS record because you registered a plumbing domain on a Saturday. Namecheap includes Domain Privacy for life on eligible registrations. Confirm it is on for your TLD before you leave checkout.

Leave the hosting checkboxes alone

A domain is not a website. You can point this name at a builder, at shared hosting, or at nothing yet. Do not buy a hosting bundle you will not use this month just because it sat next to the domain search.

Guides

Who this is for

  • A US local service business that still lives on a Facebook URL, a Gmail address, or a “website coming soon” card.
  • An owner who will keep this name for years and cares what it costs after the first invoice.
  • Someone willing to have a registrar login that is not also their website builder login.

Who this is not for

  • If you want one vendor for domain, page, and mailbox this Saturday, use our sister Start A Site and its GoDaddy default instead of this page.
  • If you already have a developer on retainer who named a registrar, keep that registrar. Transferring names for sport is how mail breaks.
  • If you want the most beautiful template on the internet, that is a builder decision, not a registrar decision. Buy the name first.

What we will not do

  • Pretend this is Namecheap’s official help center or clone their storefront.
  • Invent star scores, “editors’ choice” ribbons, or fake coupons.
  • Quote a teaser price we cannot date and source. Verify current pricing on Namecheap.
  • Push a website builder or a VPS as the default next click. This lander’s job is the domain.
